Russia went into Syria mainly to prevent Assad’s government from falling to pieces. Well, it hasn’t, and Russia announced it would pull its troops out of Syria, patting itself on the back with a nice, “mission accomplished.”

Because their goal was not to bring peace to and rebuild the entire country, Russia got in and out and didn’t get stuck. With the US, it looks like it’s going to be another story. Russia did help out in bombings against the Islamic State, and with Russia’s help gone, it’s going to take longer for the United States to now work without their help to destroy the terrorist group.

The troops have yet to actually leave the Middle East, but once they do, the game changes for everyone involved- especially the US.
