Islamist rebel groups are beginning to bring the fire back into the conflict after one of the leaders of the Nusra Front was killed in a airstrike. As Riad Hijab “The cessation of hostilities agreement is about to take its last breath and effectively be declared finished.”

The short lived cease fire is being routed by continuing chaos in the region. There are so many divided groups vying for control over different areas that it seems nearly impossible to get the dust to settle for just a few days at best. The Nusra Front, Assad’s regime, and ISIS among others are all involved though not all of these groups are involved in the peace talks in Geneva.

The continuing conflict leads one to wonder exactly how (and when) the conflict will settle down. There a lot of competing interests that are dividing up the area and leaving thousands of innocents wounded and dead in it’s wake.
