In a recent confessional, a man named Edgar Matobato stated that Rodrigo Duterte,  the current president of the Philippines, is responsible for the “extrajudicial killings of about 1,000 people.” In his campaign for the presidency, President Duterte made it part of his platform to fight against the widespread use of drugs that is taking place in his country. It seems that instead of providing community services to help drug users out of their addictions, he is completely cleansing them from his country.

This is an enormous human rights violation, and the international community needs to respond. President Obama and other world leaders have raised voices of warning, bringing this issue to light, but action must be taken to stop Rodrigo Duterte from these heinous and unjust murders.
