The Israeli government is being criticized by both Israeli and Palestinian rights organizations for not seriously investigating war crimes and military misconduct during the 2014 war with Gaza where 2,200 Palestinians were killed over half being citizens. Israeli militants are being accused of killing civilians and causing significant damage to hospitals and schools. The investigations they have sluggishly looked into have been dismissed with no charges.
The International Criminal Court needs to get involved with the investigations. Israel’s history with war crimes against Palestinians should by default ensure that they are not allowed to investigate their own war crimes. Their current policy of targeting homes without any evidence of harboring militants or artillery is an example of Israel’s disregard for Palestinian civilian lives and the need for the UN and international criminal court to get involved. The conflict in Israel will not change until others stand up for the inhumane war crimes Israel has been committing and the world has been dismissing for years.

All good points. I don’t understand why they can investigate these accusations of war crimes when they are the defendants of the accusations. This obviously would lead to shifty activity. They would be able to cover up by eliminating anyone with a view contrary to their own. I think the United Nations should get involved.

Yes considering Israel’s track record, I’m surprised they are allowed to conduct their own investigations on war crimes. A higher power needs to get involved in holding Israel accountable such as The International Criminal Court, or even the United States. Considering we just gave Israel a 38 billion dollar military aide package, hopefully we can exercise leverage with Israel to prod them into a more human rights friendly agenda toward Palestinians.

One of the main reasons why I was drawn to this article was the picture. I think the main reason/message why the International Criminal Court or the United Nations hasn’t been involved in the Isareli government seriously investigating these war crimes or military misconducts is because how chaotic and disorganized these two countries are. They don’t know where to start. This picture is the article illustrates how disorganized and chaotic these societies are. They have children running in the streets with tanks, machine guns, bombs, etc. The International Criminal Court and the United Nations would get into a huge mess if they tried addressing this issue. This topic does need to be addressed but who has the time to go into these countries and try to break down the issues and problems as to why this is happening?

International intervention in long overdue in Israel. However, because of the way that permanent members of the UN Security Council are allowed to veto resolutions and policies, the effectiveness and ability of the UN to step in is limited to almost nothing. Due to the conflict between Israel and Palestine being one of the most complex and lengthy conflicts, the US is hesitant to step in and point fingers so instead they support and therefore they can veto. This leaves, as the articles states, thousands of citizens dead and little to no reprimand for the culprit, Israel.
