One man’s tragic loss of his wife did not cause him to join with Trump and others who falsely label illegal immigrants as criminals.

Even after Andy Ostroy’s wife was murdered by an illegal immigrant, he has the decency to stand up against fallible labels. He says, “Adrienne was not murdered by an illegal immigrant, per se. She fell victim to a depraved killer who simply happened to be an undocumented immigrant. It is an obvious distinction, almost too obvious, but it’s an important one to consider as the country goes further down the dangerous path of demonizing those not born here.”

Ostroy’s personal experience gives him special credibility in pointing out the dangers of stereotyping decent people who come to the USA in search for a better life. He recognizes that the jargon commonly used during the 2016 election campaigns reflects, “malevolence toward immigrants runs counter to the principles on which our great nation was founded.”

It is of utmost importance that we refrain from blaming racial groups from the crime we see in the world, in order to avoid committing criminal judgments ourselves.
