Raoul Wallenberg has finally been declared dead after 71 years of uncertainty. Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Hungarian Jews during the closing months of World War II.
Wallenberg’s family spent the last 71 years in hope that he may still be alive, but has finally decided that this is no longer possible. It is believed that Wallenberg was taken off the street in Budapest and taken to K.G.B. headquarters in Moscow. After that, he seems to have just vanished. No positive records of his death have been found, although speculations have arisen. He may have been executed in Lubyanka, or the order for his liquidation may have come from Stalin himself.
After 71 years, Raoul’s estate will now be settled and his family will be able to more fully move on from this tragic loss although they may never know what truly happened to him.
