While the world watches the United States’ election, and contention and brutal competition are in the air, there is another dispute going on. This one is much friendlier though. It’s a land dispute in the middle of the Arctic. Han’s Island is a tiny bit of land sitting dead center between Canada and Denmark. Throughout the past few decades Han’s Island has been fought over by these two countries. Both military’s have been present but not a single shot has been fired. Instead they have been posting their flags, and leaving bottles of tradition alcoholic beverages to “claim” the island. There has still not been an official agreement, but now there is talk of having sovereignty under both flags. I write about this to simply ease the tension that exists in the world right now. There are still fun ways to negotiate, even when it’s a land dispute which usually is very contentious.
