Recent findings in certain cell phone codes shows that the software has been secretly tracking and recording the user’s text messages, contacts, locations, and much more. What is even more scary is that this information was being sent to a Chinese Server. Kryptowire, a security firm, was the one who discovered this coding. The code was written by a Chinese company called Shanghai Adups Technology Company. “American authorities say it is not clear whether this represents secretive data mining for advertising purposes or a Chinese government effort to collect intelligence” (New York Times). Adups claims that they were not doing the bidding of the Chinese Government and that it was a mistake. Seems like a unlikely coincidence to mistakenly write code that sends private information to a Chinese server. Regardless of the motive, whether it was a plot laid out by the government or a sneaky way to gain an competitive advertising advantage, it is wrong and a very spine chilling thing to think  about. Technology is a very powerful tool.
