In response to the violence seen on the streets of Chicago Donald Trump tweeted that “If Chicago doesn’t fix the horrible ‘carnage’ going on 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016) I will send in the Feds!” This increase in violence comes with clashes between residents of Chicago and the police force. In response to President Trump’s tweet both the major and police chief of Chicago said they would be glad to work with the ‘Feds’ to stop the violence. Throughout his campaign Trump promised that he would curb the violence on the streets of American cities.

I’m not sure that adding more people in the streets with guns is going to fix anything. Civil Rights leader Jesse L. Jackson said reply to this situation, “We need a plan not a threat. We need jobs not jails.” This problem is one that should be fixed starting from the bottom, making sure that children in this area are educated well and are safe so that they can grow up to help make change for their city. While sending in federal reinforcements might help subdue the problem for a limited amount of time- in the long run I think it’ll do more bad than good.
