On Tuesday, Israel approved plans for new housing in the West Bank. The decision not only goes against the United Nations Security Council denouncement of settlements, but also doubles Israel’s original plans which received some international condemnation. In the past, United States presidents have favored a two-state agreement between Israel and Palestine. Though no one is certain whether Trump will ultimately come to the same conclusion, many speculate that he is leaning toward support of Israel at the expense of Palestinian interests and the two-state solution. In addition, Palestinian countries declare that that moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem legitimizes Israel’s annexation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem in the 1967 war. President Trump’s plans in regards to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are unclear. One thing is for certain: his decisions will matter.
