Since the end of the Second World War, nuclear weapons have been a source of both fear and strength for countries. The P5 countries (U.S., U.K., Russia, China, and France) have had nuclear weapons and it is commonly known that Pakistan, India, Israel, and probably DPR Korea also have nuclear weapons. However, with both domestic and international politics changing, other countries in Europe feel the need to protect themselves with nuclear weapons in order to be independent of the U.S. and U.K. with their unreliable political changes.
The plan would be to make France’s nuclear arsenal more of a community resource instead of only for France. The EU countries together would fund nuclear weapons and make decisions on them. The reason behind this seems to be because of Donald Trump’s unpredictable policies and actions as well as the new alignment between the U.S. and Russia, something Europe isn’t completely in favor of. Although this is still an unlikely situation, it is unfortunate that our Allies in Europe no longer feel like they can count on us.
