A quiet road in Upstate, New York has become the way to the promised land for many refugees. Roxham Road in Champlain, NY isn’t even a real road anymore. It’s an old country road that runs right up to the Canadian border. For people seeking asylum, this dirt road is the last leg of their trip out of the United States. The people of Champlain have seen hundreds of refugees, in a matter of months, cross this road only to be arrested on the other side- and then beg for asylum. This area of the United States is certainly not Trump country and the citizens of this small town are more than happy to help this new flood of people find Roxham Road.

I think it is a terrible thing that these refugees can’t find refuge in the ‘land of the free’. The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, has made it clear that refugees are welcome in Canada- which is certainly a different from the message President Trump is sending.
