Republicans faced a major setback after last week’s failure to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Unable to secure enough votes, Speaker Paul Ryan announced, “We’re going to be living with Obamacare for the foreseeable future.”
Or are we?
Despite the removal of the bill, Republican legislators and the White House seem to be back in negotiations. The House Republican Whip, Steve Scalese, said, “[Democrats’] celebration is premature. We are closer to repealing Obamacare than we ever have been before.” Vice President Mike Pence was also seen Tuesday meeting with lawmakers for lunch on Capitol Hill.
It’s unsure what has changed between last Friday and today, but it will be interesting to see if Republicans try for another full-on repeal so soon.
