The NHL has stated that it will not send players to the 2018 Winter Olympics. Owners of the teams have decided that supporting the Olympics is too bothersome to the regular season, and so they do not want players to go. This is upsetting for many players as the NHL tends to gather the best players from around the world, so taking them out of the Olympics will remove most of the talent. How rewarding is the Gold Medal if you know none of the best players were allowed to attend the event? Another problem arises with players who are incredibly patriotic and want to represent their country in the Olympics. How will owners prevent them from participating if they are some of the best players on the team? Should an organization such as the NHL be allowed to bar its players from such a worldwide and popular event that means so much to patriotic people around the world? How should the two organizations work together, if at all?
