In a recent article, we are told of how in order to win Hilary Clinton more votes, a few prominent feminists have basically scolded young women who are not fighting for the cause of the first woman president. In fact it was even insinuated that young women were uniformed and simply following whatever young men were doing, which in this case they said was following Sanders.
I am all for feminism, but by that I mean equality for both genders. What would equality look like then? It would mean that in a presidential election, we as voters would look at candidates and their strengths and weaknesses in order to decide who to vote for, REGARDLESS OF GENDER. But what these women are implying is that we should get behind Hilary Clinton for the sole reason that she is a woman. I believe that it should be just as possible for Hilary Clinton to win the election, as it should be for Bernie Sanders. But what they are suggesting is not equality. Sexism, as Webster dictionary defines it, is prejudice or discrimination based on sex. If we vote for Hilary Clinton on the sole basis that she is a woman and we need to empower them, we are being sexist because we are discriminating against Sanders based on his gender.
Now I agree that it is impossible to have a completely sexist free, equal election. There will always be something imbalanced and that is something that we need to be able to realize. However, I find it completely ridiculous that the women who are “fighting” for equality are themselves the perpetrators of sexism and in turn inequality.
